11/12/08 Update and Upcoming Events

A selection of my 2D artwork is on display at Chuck's Deli & Coffee Shop, 12115 Manchaca Rd., Manchaca. One of the pieces hanging there is my 'Ancestral Home' painting which was selected as a finalist for the Hunting Art Prize last year. This exhibition will be up for 3 months.

I will be a guest artist during the East Austin Studio Tour, Nov. 22 & 23 at the Metal Arts Co-op # 42 in the tour, 2511 C East 6th St. I plan to bring an assortment of my artwork including jewelry, mobiles, maybe a chess set....depends on weather. If you have questions call or email me. http://metalart.meetup.com/23/ , http://www.eastaustinstudiotour.com/2008/home.html

A new event I will be participaing in on Saturday, Nov. 29 is the 1st Annual Holday Bazaar at the Austin Club, 110 East 9th St. in downtown Austin. The event will be from 3:30-9 and is free and open to the public. For info about the event, contact Melissa 477-9496

As usual, I will exhibit at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, being held at the Austin Convention Center for the second year from Dec. 12-24. My booth location will be near the streetcar. www.armadillobazaar.com/

A photograph I took entitled 'Refelctions in Barcelona' was juried in for the AVAA exhibit at their ABIA (airport) show. It will be hung as soon as I can replace the piece of glass that arrived there in pieces.

The Georgetown Library exhibited my latest large mobile during their 'Fall Art Hop'. Although their art exhibit is down, they expressed an interest in letting the piece continue to hang, so it is still there. It will be on display until I remove it, or, hopefully, will continue to hang if they purchase it. http://www.georgetownartworks.com/fallarthop.html

I have a couple of artworks that were juried and won prizes in Artoberfest at the New Braunfels Art League Gallery. My mobile with copper, patinas, semi-precious stones won 1st Place in the 'assorted' juried category, and my chess set won 2nd Place in the sculpture category. The exhibition will be up through Nov. 13. http://www.newbraunfelsartleague.com/

2008 news, bits & pieces

The somewhat annual AVAA Life Drawing Show opened Sat. October 11 at the AVAA gallery. A figurative painting of mine was juried into the exhibition. The show was up through Nov. 1. http://www.avaaonline.org/

In early October, I participated in the River Art Group Show in San Antonio. Since we just came out of what was maybe the second worst financial week in U.S. history, the slow sales were not a surprise. However, I received 2nd place in the 'sculpture/crafts' category for a necklace i entered....which was nice, especially since there was a monetary award.

I reapplied and was again accepted this fall to be member in the Texas Originals program sponsored by Texas Commission on the Arts. Their website homepage is: http://www.arts.state.tx.us/txoriginal/index.asp

August 2 & 3 I participated in the Salado Art Festival. It may have been the hottest year on record. It was that dreadful week when temperatures in central Texas hovered in the 102-107 range. The show probably should have been cancelled. I guess it's a difficult decision to make when there are so many people involved, and so many parts have been coordinated and planned. We sweated it out, along with a few attendees.

This past year, I finally got my website up at my own domain: www.artist123.com. You can also get to my website at: www.twincreekstudio.com. I decided that I did not want this to be the sole location of my website because, for some reason, many people want to 'plural' my studio to 'Twin Creek Studios', and thus, they would not find me.
My new email is: artist@artist123.com (I will continue to receive mail at my old address as well.)

Exciting news from last fall was that a painting of mine was juried in as a finalist for the Hunting Art Prize. This is a huge prize open only to Texas artists with 2D artwork. There were 128 finalists and the winner was announced at an amazing gala in Houston. It was a great honor to have my work selected. www.huntingartprize.com

Additionally, my artwork has been exhibited in various places as follows:

This past spring I exhibited two mobiles at the outdoor exhibit, Sculptor's Dominion in San Antonio. These were the largest that i've made, about 5-8' in height. They both sold, so I'm very encouraged to make more.

In January, I had a new (2007) fabricated metal chess set on exhibit at Materials Hard & Soft for which I received a juror's award. This exhibit was at the Greater Denton Arts Council. www.dentonarts.com

In March, I had 2 works on display at the juried exhibition, TSOS/Abstract '08 at Brocca Gallery, 1103 East 6th. Austin.

The annual ACC Faculty exhibition was at the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center in March. I had a figurative ceramic piece on display. 1165 Angelina St. Austin www.carvermuseum.org

I regularly exhibit at the San Antonio Airport as a member of Regional Artist’s Consortium in San Antonio.  This diverse group sometimes has gallery exhibitions as well.  http://www.racsat.com/

In 2007 I became a member of the River Art Group, a cooperative gallery in La Villita in San Antonio.   Currently, I have some jewelry and on display in their gallery. This is a small gallery with over 200 members.  The work in the gallery is quite diverse. http://riverartgroup.com/

At some point in the future, hopefully within this next year, there will be a new studio at my home, and I’m hoping to offer several small classes there. We are having a time trying to figure out how the building should be configured to accomodate my metal needs for large sculptures and small jewelry, ceramics, classes in various media, and Larry's wood-working. If you wish to be added to my mailing list for classes, please email me. artist@artist123.com
