CERAMIC SCULPTURE

The sculpture shown here are original ceramic
sculptures by Laura Sturtz. All are 'one-of-a-kind'. Laura believes
that art should be part of everyday life, and thus designs these
sculptures to fit comfortably into any home. They may relax on your
coffee table, end table, or sit on a shelf.
"Making these life sculptures is one of my very
favorite things to do", says the artist. She considers them
'sketches', as the model may pose for as short a time as 15 minutes,
but never longer than 1 1/2 hours. Working directly with soft clay,
these sculptures are first made solid. Laura lets the pieces air dry
for about a day and then hollows them out, often needing to cut off
body parts to permit hollowing, and then reattaches these parts. Then
she spends time adjusting, modifying, refining, and finishing the
figures.When the clay is totally dry, the pieces are fired to 1940
degrees fahrenheit. Some of the sculptures are painted with glaze and
fired again. The 'terra cotta' sculptures are finished with oxides
and wax.

These nude sculptures are complete human figures
and are not neutered. The artist believes the human form, as part of
nature, is quite beautiful. If you find nude figures objectionable,
